This Saturday was an exciting market! We reached over 200 customers AND our stand sold more produce from our garden then we brought in from other farms. We had collards, chard, onions, scallions, beets, cucumbers, basil, and our herb pots for sale. Next week look for our first tomaotes, zuchinni and eggplant! Posted by Picasa

Clivens, Ya Queera, Micaela and Rickyon at the GROW Stand

I think the farmers market is very good. Every Saturday more people come to the farmers market. I feel proud selling the produce that we grow because we work hard in the garden. I think the farmers market is valuable to the community because people in the community can find fresh produce at the farmers’ market .My favorite job at the farmers market is talking to people at the information table. I see a lot of people coming to the market with empty hands and leaving with lots of food. Clivens Laurore One of my favorite things about working at the farmers market is hanging out with the GROW crew. Although we see each other all the time, it seems like the farmers market brings out a different side of everyone. It is very interesting to see the various styles of customer service and interaction coming from every member of the crew. Also, it is a great to hear the young people talk about the fresh food coming right out of our garden.Posted by Picasa

Clifford helping out with the kids from Pope Park.

On this day we all were helping some kids from Pope Park recreation center. We were teaching them about how to grow plants and how to be a good gardener. Most of the kids were at least 8 to 12. The kids love eating the onions from the garden for nothing. They all were great kids and will visit a few more times this summer. Posted by Picasa

Jerica and Rickyon tasting the GROW meal, inside a greenhouse on a really rainy day.

I bought the chicken because I knew we were going to cook the following day. I went home and got the chicken out of the freezer. I washed the chicken in some water then I put seasoning on it. I even put some sazon on them. The day when I brought the chicken, everyone was asking "why is it that color?" I poured some vegetable oil into the pot. We had to wait until the oil was hot, then we put the chicken into the pot. Soon enough it was done and it was good. - Rickyon Smith Posted by Picasa

garlic

This is me, Precious, and Shannon trying a garlic from the garden after we had finished cooking. The garlic tasted very spicy when we put it in our mouths, but it was fun. Together we made pasta with vegetables from our garden. We used basil, collards, onions, and garlic. theresa.v
